On Tuesday I went to Chico, CA for a Gather Jewelry photoshoot with Social Form Creative Group and the super sexy Sadie Rose Casey. The best part was staying in Sadie's sweet little hippie guest room and hangin' out with her adorably bright and chatty son, Asher. Luckily, he graciously offered his Darth Vader mask for my bedside table. He explained that Darth would keep the monsters away while I slept. As if that weren't enough, he also insisted that I come get him if any monsters did show up in the night. What a guy! I'm pleased to report the entire evening unfolded monster free.

Here's a sneak peek at what was accomplished at the shoot. As you can see, we got some really gorgeous shots. The rest are coming soon so stay tuned!

Gus and I went to Born Free 2011 down in Southern California this weekend. What a whirlwind! A few months ago, my friend Suuzi graciously gave me an entire clean deer skeleton that she had found in the woods. After furiously scrubbing and bleaching out all the bones and laying them in the sun, I've begun sifting through them for some interesting jewelry components. Here's the first piece from what I hope to be an entire deer bone/tooth collection:

And while we're on the topic of blackened silver, I just made these asymetrical herkimer diamond post earrings. These particular specimens have lots of gorgeous black carbon deposits. These plus tons more pieces from the new collection will be available in the shop within the next few weeks.

Just finished these sweet little herkimer diamond + sterling silver stud earrings. I've been dreaming about making these for about two years now. No joke. So in love. I'll probably make some for the shop soon too!

Okay, in this second pic I'm wearing this ridiculous middle finger earring that I got at the county fair when I was in the fifth grade! I remember feeling like such a badass rebel rousing rock star, wearing a "fuck you" earring. Aaaand as soon as my mommy saw it she took it away and hid it from me...until last week. Of course it's never coming out of my lobe, I've got to make up for some serious lost time.

It occurred to me today that I haven't had any interest in hip hop since the olden days of The Pharcyde and The Wu Tang Clan. You know, way back before The Black Eyed Peas sucked major ballz? I think the last hip hop music I liked was Deltron 3030(STILL one of my favorite albums ever). Anyway, Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All has sucked me back into the hip hop world. I think these LA kids are genius. As Steve Aoki put it in the July 2011 NYLON Magazine, "Odd future is the future". Be warned if you haven't heard or seen them though, they get really raw, just don't give a fuck and thus have the potential to offend, especially in the second video. They literally make a drug smoothie and drink it!

side note: i feel like should have known this a long time ago but i just realized today that there's a girl in odd future: syd the kid, wearing the red sweatshirt in the interview. so freakin' rad. i love these guys.

Oh my god. YOU GUYS. My aunt was cleaning out her cedar hope chest last week and came across this epic grandma score: My grandmother's full-length, sheer blue dress from the late 1930's/early 1940's! I cannot believe how well it's held up after all these years. I've been looking through the old family photo archives, hoping to find a picture of a foxy young Myrtle Weber wearing this bad boy.

I can't wait to wear it with like 9 lbs of the new Gather Jewelry metal pieces, coming next week (!). One of the best parts best parts is that it has a slightly oversized fit (in a good way) on me! So if I ever pack on a few extra lbs, at least I know I'll have Granny's vintage sheer dress to wear. Boom.

I scored (at wholesale cost!) this handmade mixed metal, black onyx and malachite bracelet at a crystal shop in Las Vegas last week. I love it's weird variety of shapes, textures and colors. It reminds me of some sort of an ancient egyptian conductor for extra terrestrial information. It's so interesting, I love it!
